Dear friends and Tempe voters,

I have worked during my first term to address residents’ needs, tackle the budget crisis, and focus on issues such as transportation, housing and public safety. I am running for reelection to the Tempe City Council because there is still more work to be done.

There have been many exciting advances in our community over the last four years. The successful opening of light rail, expanding our free Orbit bus routes, establishing a housing trust fund, and finding more affordable housing options for many of our fellow residents are just some of these accomplishments.

Public safety has also been a focus during my term. At the end of 2008 (the most recent year that statistics have been compiled) the crime rate in Tempe is the lowest it has been in twenty years.

Due to declining tax revenue, your city staff and Council worked together to cut over $30 million from the 2009-10 budget. For 2010-11, we are faced with cutting an additional $30 million. My knowledge of the budget, experience with Tempe programs, and getting input from residents like you will help us craft creative solutions that are needed to deal with this deficit while maintaining our quality of life.

I will continue to devote my experience and energy to be a Councilmember who respects and responds to our community. Thank you for your time and I ask for your vote on or before March 9th.
